New page

== Menu / Icon ==

This tool is accessible via the 'Edit > Scalar fields > Arithmetic' menu or the [[Image:CcSfArithmetic.png]] icon in the upper main toolbar.

== Description ==

This tool allows to:
* perform standard arithmetic operations between two scalar fields of the same cloud (+,-,*,/)
* or apply mathematical functions to a single scalar field

[[Image:Cc_sf_arithmetic_dialog.jpg|frame|center|Edit > Scalar Fields > Arithmetic dialog]]

Other than the standard operations (that can be applied to a second scalar field or a constant value), the other supported mathematical functions are:
* square root
* power of 2
* power of 3
* EXP (exponential)
* LOG (natural log)
* LOG10 (base 10 log)
* COS (radians)
* SIN (radians)
* TAN(radians)
* ACOS
* ASIN
* ATAN
* Integer part
* Inverse (1/x)

Since version 2.6.3:
* the user can select a constant value instead of a secondary scalar field for the standard operations (+,-,*,/)
* the user can choose to update the first scalar field directly ('in place'). Otherwise a new scalar field will be created. Anyway the source scalar fields are never deleted.
