How to orientate a surface of a point cloud with given strike and dip angles?

Post by hirsebrei »

Heyho,
I'm wondering if it is possible to align a surface of a point cloud to in field measurements with a geological compass. As far as I came is to use the compass plugin to read out the strike and dip of a vertical surface and rotate from there around the Z-axis to at least match the strike. But vertical surfaces are rare and it would be super handy dandy to get strike and dip correctly.
Does somebody know how to do this? Thanks in advance.

Not sure, but with the 'Edit > Plane > Create' tool you can create some planes with given dip/dip direction values. Then if you know where they where, you can maybe position these planes at the right position and eventually make the cloud match with these planes?
