Types of Chains For Jewelry Making

Many jewelry makers will argue that a trace chain is the best chain for making jewelry because it is an all-round chain. This may be true to some extent, but you must consider the unique features of other chain types to find the one that suits your needs most. You can quickly checkImage Best of Craft and Sewing Products on the Crafts Selection website to learn about individual features for different jewelry chains. The following are the different jewelry chain types.

Trace Chain

Trace chain is one of the most prominent jewelry chain options. It is characterized by tiny oval-shape links; hence it is great for creating a piece of minimalistic fine jewelry. They also come in diverse lengths and thicknesses, and they are great all-round chains for making jewelry. The 9 and 14 carat gold are some of the familiar trace chains around.

Belcher Chain

This is also known as the Rolo chain. It is pretty similar to a trace chain, but its links are often more comprehensive than its thickness. It is pretty sturdy and more popular with men’s jewelry. They also come in varying carat measurements.

Hayseed Chain

Hayseed chain is a lightweight and beautiful jewelry chain type that can be intricately linked together. Its details are delicate; hence they create some sparkle when light is reflected on their surfaces.

Curb Chain

The curb chain is quite heavy in design. The links on this chain have been flattened and twisted together. The chains are interlocked, and they can be used in making jewelry that makes a statement. It is also popular jewelry for men. It comes in different sterling and thicknesses. VisitImage CraftsSelection to learn more about this jewelry chain type.

Snake Chain

This is also known as the Brazilian chain, and it is unique because it doesn’t come with links. It comes with smooth metal plates tightly woven to create a more flexible chain type. The smoothness of this chain produces a sophisticated appearance. It comes in varieties, including sterling silver, 9ct gold, and plated silver.

Rope Chain

The rope chain has links woven together to create a twisted effect. It looks like a rope, and it can take center stage in your jewelry. You can find it in diverse options, including the Oxidized diamond rope chain that produces a luxurious feel.

Bead Chain

Bead chain is also referred to as ball or pelline chain. It is characterized by beautiful tiny metal spheres that run through the chain. The balls are included at regular intervals across the chain’s length and connected with connector bars. This chain will add a modern feel to your jewelry designs.

Figaro Chain

Figaro chain is lovely because it adds details to your jewelry design. There are flattened links here, and those add to its elegance too. In addition to the flattened links, three additional shorter links are separated by a longer link.

The alternating link sizes will create some sparkle, especially when the chain is exposed to light. It is available in varieties, including sterling silver and 9ct gold options. Yes, just activate the "stereo mode" (bottom icon in the left toolbar). And select the "Red-Blue" glasses type.
