.LAZ files crash Mac version

I have been trying to open .laz files on CC 2.7 and 2.6 running a Mac with 10.10 and 10.11. While Cloud Compare for Mac opens my las files with no problem... .laz files crash Cloud Compare upon attempting to open them. These same .laz files open just fine on the Windows versions of Cloud Compare. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this behavior?
