Problems loading files

Hey there,

I am new here, and I am also new into this Scanning-Thing.
I installed CC on my Macintosh machine (i7, 16gb ram, OSX 10.11) by just dragging it from the dmg into my application folder.
As I don't have my own scan data yet, I download some samples and tried to open them. But neither a .fls (Faro) nor a e57 file worked.
Always getting error message: [Load] Can't guess file format: unhandled file extension 'e57/fls').

Any sugestions what could be the problem here?

All help very appreciated!

thx in advance,
eddi

Ah! You are not very lucky ;) The FARO and E57 formats are only available on Windows for now (as the libraries /SDK that are used to load them are not available on other platforms :D).

But you can load almost all the other formats. The ones you'll find the more easily on the web are ASC / PTS, PLY, PTX and LAS/LAZ.

Oh, an answer making me quite pessimistic, as I am going to scan with a Faro Machine in some weeks.
Any chance to convert the Faro data into something that'll work with my Mac CC?

You should ask FARO about that ;)

More seriously, you can still run CC on a Windows machine and convert your data either to the BIN format (CloudCompare's own format) or PTX (heavier but more generic).

Hi @daniel, I was wondering if there's any new solution for CloudCompare on a Mac to open E57 files in the newer versions yet? I have several scans that I'd like to be able to work with in CloudCompare that are in that format.
Thanks
Patrick

I fear the E57lib is still not supported on MacOS.

Hi Daniel,

Just following up as previous posters.
Still no e57 import support on OS? Windows only?

Actually I believe Andy has very recently ported libE57 on Mac OS!

This is only available though compilation for now (the 2.10.alpha version). But as soon as it is officially released it should be available to everyone.
