I am new to CloudCompare and downloaded the version for Mac, however it won't let me click on any LAS/LAZ files or a DEM in order to open them in CloudCompare.
Please can someone tell me why this is happening.

Are you asking about double-clicking a file in the Finder or opening it from within CloudCompare?
If it's the former it is probably because the Info.plist is out of date and doesn't include the proper file extensions for those file types.
You should be able to open LAS/LAZ (1.3) files from within CloudCompare though.
