How to set a specific box size to segment point cloud?

Post by Kwanmok »

Hi forum,

I would like to segment out a specific volume (for example, 2 X2 X2 cm^3 cube) from multiple areas in my point cloud.
I have looked into the 'segment(scissor)' option but doesn't seem like it has an option to set a specific size.

I have tried moving around the point clouds near the scale bar (bottom right of the screen) and tried to segment out that portion as close as possible. However, since the 'segment' option produces a 'rectangle' instead of a square, this is not the exact size of a cube.
Is there a way that we could do this in CloudCompare?

Thanks in advance,
Kwan

I think you just need to use the 'Cross section' tool (see the wiki). You'll be able to define the right box and move it anywhere you see fit. Then you can export the points falling inside the box (with the 'Extract slice' icon)
