exporting an .obj file as a .e47

Post by Brigit123 »

Hello!

I'm new to CloudCompare and having installed v2.8.1 (Windows version) I'm looking to save a .obj file to .e57 format, as the website suggests should be possible.

However, when going to the save dialogue .e57 is not an available option. Could you please explain whether there are any additional steps that are required to be able to export to .e57.

The architectural software I use, Archicad, will only accept point cloud imports (including the constituent texture files) in .e57 format so it really is crucial that I can convert the file to this type.

Any help or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Brigit

Pay attention that OBJ files contain triangular meshes, while E57 files are meant to store point clouds.

If you want to do that, then you'll have to convert the mesh to a point cloud (which is rarely a good idea, but it depends on what you want to do). Anyway use 'Edit > Mesh > Sample points' to create a cloud out of a mesh (with a specified number of points).
