Re: dip /dip direction

- Dip direction is measured in 360 degrees, clockwise from North (North being +Y by default)

Re: cloud registration without scale adjustment

The 'adjust scale' button is just to allow the global scale of the to be aligned cloud to be modified so as to better match the reference entity. If you don't enable this option, then you'll have a truly 'rigid' transformation of the to be aligned cloud, without any modification of the scale (that s...

Re: Batch to icp several clouds - command file

Version 2.10?!

Do you know that version 2.13 is out since February? (2.10 is 5 years old).

And the version 2.13 command line mode should support -FARTHEST_REMOVAL or even better, the more robust -OVERLAP option.

Re: Fine registration vs compute cloud/mesh results meaning

Definitely the C2M distances. And you can use either the std. deviation or the RMS... Maybe the RMS is simpler (and it includes a potential 'bias' of the distances, it's not only about the variations around the average).

Re: tank analysis with ransac problem

Have you tested the 'contour extraction' tool? https://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/i ... ngle_slice

If properly parametrized, it can extract the 'concave' hull of a point cloud.

Re: Calculating Surface Areas of Open Mesh

So after playing with the 'displayed' scalar field range, you should 'Edit > Scalar fields > Filter by value'. This will extract only the visible triangles to a new mesh entity.

Then you can compute the surface of this new mesh.

Re: Fine registration vs compute cloud/mesh results meaning

So there are 2 differences: - the RMS is a slightly different calculus compared to the std. dev. (RMS = root of mean squares / STD DEV = root of 'mean squares minus the squared average') - the ICP tool only uses a subset of the total number of points at each iteration. Therefore the RMS is computed ...
